I have special expertise in working with people who have survived various types of trauma, particularly sexual assault, abuse, and domestic violence. My graduate training and research have focused on areas if resiliency and adaptive functioning following traumas and I bring that emphasis to my clinical work. While I have expertise and specialized training in the area of trauma work, I never forget that my clients are the experts of their own lives, of what will be best for them. I approach this type of work from a place of respect and empowerment. As a collaborative partnership in therapy, my clients and I work together to determine issues such as pace and depth of work, treatment planning, and focus of work. My approach to trauma work is very pragmatic in nature, with a focus on helping clients integrate the traumatic event and come to a place from which they can move forward in their lives in a meaningful direction rather than their lives being determined by the traumatic event.
